SHOKK have partnered with Halo Leisure to enhance their recently launched Fit for Free incentive, which has been devised to help more young people get involved in positive physical activity.

Fit for Free has opened the doors of the 9 Halo Centres to six hundred 12-16 year olds, in a bid to get them active this summer.

SHOKK were enlisted to deliver the qualification and enrolled Halo staff onto the 'Earn Your Strips' learning pathway in order to up-skill and provide them with the essential knowledge required to effectively work with this demographic.

Shawn Clarke, business development and franchise manager, commented: "Halo have shown great determination and resources to offer all local youngsters a variety of activities and an ongoing commitment to develop this programme. We have provided an initial platform of understanding and programming that is stimulating, varied and motivating, and one which will be developed with Halo and, most importantly, via feedback from the young people over the summer."

SHOKK Core Module level 2, adapting gym instruction for adolescents, was delivered to the Fit for Free leaders.

The main aim of the course was for participants to learn how to adapt gym instruction and teaching styles for a youth demographic. This included the physiological and psychological issues; safe kit usage; training methods and a wide range of ideas on how to run motivational youth orientated gyms sessions. Future demonstrations and focus groups have also been scheduled while SHOKK X-treme and Urban Street Dance will be delivered to further expand the portfolio of activities.
