£5m health club and spa for Oxfordshire golf club
A £5m luxury health club and spa is set to open in Bicester, Oxfordshire this month.
Set in 145 acres of countryside, the 28,000sq ft (2,600sq m) complex has been created adjacent to existing facilities at the Golf & Country Club in Little Chesterton.
A 7,000sq ft (650sq m) health club forms the heart of the development with 80 workstations equipped by Cybex. There are also designated weights, stretch and spin areas and two dance studios which will offer a range of Pilates, yoga, aerobics classes.
Other facilities at the site include an aquatic centre with a 20m swimming pool, 16-seater spa bath, a pummelling hydro spa and flotation tank. A sauna, steamroom, solarium, flotation tank, hairdressers, spray tan facility and a complete range of beauty treatments and therapies by Elemis and Caci beauticians complete the offer.
The health and fitness centre has a capacity for 3,000 members, with half that number already signed up before opening.
Owner Graham Payne said membership costs are competitive offering access to the club facilities; which include a licensed bar and a restaurant, a members’ lounge and outdoor terrace with views across the golf course. Regular entertainment and functions are held in the club’s banqueting suite throughout the year.
A special membership rate is available for joint golf and fitness membership.
“The health and fitness centre is designed to appeal to all ages, but Bicester has an ever growing population of young professional people for whom there is a great shortage of quality leisure facilities,” said Payne, who acquired the golf club five years ago.
“It’s my hope that members will use the club as an extension of their own living rooms and gardens as somewhere to relax, socialise and entertain at a reasonable cost.”
The project has created 24 full-time and 8 part-time jobs for local people and future plans for the club include introducing a hotel.
