dabsi Arena set for September opening
The first phase of Boston's £7m dabsi Arena is scheduled to open on 26 September.
It will include a pavilion - to be home to Boston Rugby Club and Boston and District Athletic Club - an athletics track, a floodlit rugby pitch and a fitness centre and when complete will be the first stadium in the world to be designed from the ground up to be fully accessible to both the able bodied and those with a disability. A further £2m is needed to complete the project - an indoor multi-sport training area - and a Last Lap promotion day was held in February aimed at raising the funding required.
It has since been announced that sponsorship to the tune of £342,000 will be provided by the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA). Chair of Boston Sports Initiative trustees, Beryl Clay said: News of EMDA's contribution is a fabulous step towards our final goal.
The Arena has already won commercial sponsorship but Boston Borough Council chief executive, Nicola Bulbeck said that help is still needed and that the stadium would be a significant asset locally, regionally and nationally. Details: www.dabsi.org.uk or +44 (0)1430 472126
