Work on Maghull Leisure Centre begins
Construction work has begun on the £8.2m leisure centre and library in Maghull, Merseyside as part of an improvement scheme developed by Sefton Council and Maghull Town Council.
Maghull Leisure Centre and Library, designed by GLR architects, will feature a five lane, 25m swimming pool and a learner pool as well as a fitness suite, a sauna, a steamroom and an aerobics studio. There will also be a fitness referral suite and meeting rooms.
The facility, will be located to the rear of the existing Maghull Town Hall, will also include a library with an IT suite, a large children's area with dedicated computer space and enquiry pods.
The construction work is being carried out by Wigan-based Allenbuild. As part of the building's eco-friendly design it includes a carbon neutral, biomass fuel boiler and the ability to recycle pool filtration water.
Councillor Lord Ronnie Fearn said: "The Maghull Leisure Centre and Library will be a fantastic new development for the town. It marks the end of years of hard work and campaigning now this facility is coming to fruition."
The centre is expected to open in Autumn 2009.
