Universal prepares to unwrap mummy ride
Universal Studios has unveiled plans for a Revenge of The Mummy ride, inspired by the hit Mummy movies.
Ten years in research and development, the new indoor thrill ride blends LIM rollercoaster technology with advanced animatronics, live pyrotechnic special effects and authenticated Egyptian sets.
It will debut simultaneously this year at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando.
Guests will be swept into a ‘terrifying underworld of ancient Egypt’, influenced by design input from the movies’ writer and director, Stephen Sommers and creative partner, Bob Ducsay.
Sommers said: “To have the world of The Mummy films turned into a thrilling, scary, scream-worthy ride is really a thrill for me.
“This is, in many ways, the next sequel to The Mummy.”
Universal has described the ride as the ‘next threshold attraction in our industry’ and said: “There is no other ride like it.”
Universal’s ride producers have visited Egypt and the British Museum to ensure the ride’s authenticity and engineering techniques used on the Mars robotic range vehicle have been employed on the ride – including a skeleton warrior which leaps into the rider’s vehicle.
Universal has a tradition of creating attractions from its hit films, with movies such as ET, Back to the Future and Backdraft all having been used to theme rides.
