TiLE 2001 'a job well done'
The 10th Annual TiLE (Trends in Leisure and Entertainment) conference was dubbed 'a job well done' by organisers in its final year before a temporary move to the German capital, Berlin. Delegates representing theme parks, museums and attractions descended on the Business Design Centre in London for the three-day event. Topics covered this year included examining new trends in an uncertain climate, project management at new developments, and fulfilling customer promises, needs and expectations. While 'everyone who matters seems to have been there', there was, however, a notable absence of the newly-appointed Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell. Nick Farmer from the Themed Entertainment Association in Europe, is concerned that the multi billion pound industry is not receiving the acknowledgement it merits: The importance of this world class sector has been largely ignored by UK government in the past. With the new appointment of Tessa Jowell, we are hoping to be taken more seriously. The consensus among delegates, however, is that TiLE 2001 managed to deliver the 'muscle, teeth and bite' that outgoing conference chair Malcolm Lewis of Media Projects International promised. Chair for Berlin in 2002 has been passed to Oliver Kipp of Wenzel Consulting.
