Success for FIA’s Active at Work scheme
Latest results reveal that Active at Work, the Fitness Industry Association’s (FIA) workplace-based activity programme, is already successful.
The evaluation, which took a six-month snapshot of the pilot programme, concluded that it got more people more active and actually changed participants’ attitudes towards leading a healthier lifestyle.
The survey shows that almost 40 per cent of participants have since joined a leisure centre or health club and almost 80 per cent have built regular exercise into their lifestyles. A further 15 per cent of participants said they intend to.
The success of the programme also went beyond physical activity, with 50 per cent of participants citing an increase in their consumption of fruit and vegetables.
Although the pilot is currently focused in London and the East of England, plans are being drawn up to roll out Active at Work nationwide.
Mick Gurden, an emergency planning officer, recently completed the programme linking Harlow District Council with Esporta. “The opportunity to participate in Active at Work gave me the incentive to test my willpower to determine whether or not I could justify paying for a gym membership,” he said.
“Active at Work has proved that I can enjoy regular exercise thanks to the motivated, helpful instructors. As a result my partner and I have become full members at Esporta in Harlow.”
