Roehampton University adds IFI gym
Roehampton University in London has added an Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) accredited fitness facility to its gym.
The £230,000 ROEActive facility was built to replace a IT suite, creating a 250sq m (2,700sq ft) gym with exercise studios.
The gym includes 40 cv stations, supplied by Cybex, which have been accredited as IFI Stage 2.
Ian Pickup, director of Sport & Wellbeing at the university, said: "We have a broad commitment to promoting social justice, which means that we must ensure that our students, staff and community partners can access fully inclusive opportunities to be active.
"We are working closely with stakeholders in the London Borough of Wandsworth in this regard, so investing in IFI equipment was an important choice to make."
The IFI gym forms a part of ROEactive's strategy to develop a comprehensive activity programme for the university's students.
The programme encompasses activities provided by the Students’ Union, the Sport Performance Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (SPARC) and those run by the Human Resources department.
SPARC provides sports science and sports medicine services, such as fitness testing, physiotherapy, sports massage and sports nutrition, and is accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).
