One KX to open next week
One KX, Central YMCA’s health and arts centre in Kings Cross, London, will open on 23 June.
To mark the event, the One KX Open Day is being held with activities both inside and outside the five-storey building, including fitness MOTs, exercise and dance classes, music and video-mixing workshops, DJs, face and henna painting, massages and free food. >
The 10,000sq ft (930sq m) former youth club was converted into the One KX centre after a £1.7m fundraising campaign, which included contributions from Sport England and Camden Council, with the intention of providing “inspiration, education and opportunities for health in mind, body and spirit within the community of Kings Cross”.
The centre will feature a multi-activity studio – designed by the Hertfordshire-based architects Widdup Amer – that will offer activity programmes for the local community including dance, yoga, martial arts and group exercise.
A separate gym space till also be available for programmes and timetabled used by locals.
The facility will also house Central YMCA’s Y Touring Theatre and a café, which will be run as a social enterprise. Details: www.onekx.org.uk
