New outdoor gym for Nottingham
A new outdoor gym, including a traversing wall, a basketball hoop, a football goal and a dance area, has been unveiled at the Forest Recreation Ground in Nottingham.
Suitable for all ages and particularly targeted at young people, the new equipment has been funded by a £95,000 grant from NHS Nottingham City, which has been working in partnership with Nottingham City Council (NCC) on the venture. Dave Trimble, NCC councillor responsible for sports, leisure and parks, said: "With rising obesity levels and inactivity, the outdoor gym will create a safe and inclusive environment for free and fun exercise."
John Wilcox, health promotion co-ordinator at NHS Nottingham City, added: "Improving outdoor areas such as parks is part of our overall strategy to help people lead more active lives to improve health and wellbeing. "The new equipment will benefit existing and new park users, and will be lined in with local services that aim to increase activity levels."
NHS Nottingham City is also funding a new 'legacy gym' at Clifton Park, near to the Clifton Leisure Centre. It is designed to act as an outdoor fitness hub, and will be aimed at older people although can be used by anyone.
