New Bristol facility to open in February
Bristol's new multi-million pound Hengrove Park Leisure Centre is on course to open "on time and on budget" on 29 February 2012, according to Bristol City Council (BCC).
Kier is the main contractor for the construction and fit-out phases of the project, which has been funded using £30.56m of private finance initiative (PFI) credits from the government.
It is the third new swimming pool and leisure centre to open in Bristol in recent years and is to comprise a 10-lane, 50m swimming pool and teaching pool, as well as a 150-station gym.
A four-court sports hall; a dedicated spin studio; two group exercise studios; and a climbing wall are also proposed, in addition to a healthy living zone and a crèche.
BCC executive member for capital programme, sport and culture Simon Cook said: "[The centre's] completion will provide first class leisure facilities for local residents, create much-needed new jobs in South Bristol and complement the regeneration of Hengrove Park."
Parkwood Leisure will operate the facility on behalf of BCC when complete. Details: www.leisurecentre.com
