Millennium Point to open on time and in budget
Millennium Point, the £114m landmark building combining science, technology, learning and fun, opens this week.
Designed by architects Nicholas Grimshaw and Partners, Millennium Point is the largest millennium project outside of London and home to a variety of new attractions.
Thinktank, the Birmingham Museum of Science and Discovery, has 10 galleries over four floors with 200 interactive exhibits, a 200-seat theatre, education rooms, café and shop. The museum aims to attract more than 300,00 visitors a year.
The Technology Innovation Centre, a national centre of excellence for technology-based development, the University of the First Age, which includes the Young People's Parliament and the Midlands' first large format IMAX theatre, with a screen measuring 50ft by 70ft, also feature at Millennium Point.
'Millennium Point and everything in it are about expanding your mind,' said Menna Rees-Steer, Millennium Point's head of communications.
The size of six football pitches, Millennium Point has transformed a 12-acre brownfield site in the centre of Birmingham and is the foundation for the regeneration of Birmingham's Eastside, which has been designated as the city's Learning Quarter.
