Midlothian Council has invested £651,000 in improving two of its leisure centres.
The two sites – Newtongrange Leisure Centre and Gorebridge Leisure Centre – have had ToneZone fitness suites installed to widen the range of facilities they offer customers.
Both new ToneZones will offer thirty fitness stations with comfort cooling, including strength and cardiovascular fitness equipment such as treadmills, bikes, rowers and step machines.
Other improvements at the Gorebridge centre include refurbished changing facilities, while the reception area has been opened up and revamped. There will also be an increase in number of fitness classes on offer.
Newtongrange Leisure Centre improvements include a 100sq m dance studio, improved lighting, and upgraded changing facilities with new lockers and showers.
Councillor Jim Muirhead said: "The Council now has seven ToneZones across its leisure centres and has invested £1.4m in the fitness suites over the past two years.
