MLB takes over Los Angeles Dodgers
Major League Baseball (MLB) commissioner Allan 'Bud' Selig has confirmed that he has taken over responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Los Angeles Dodgers team.
It comes amid concerns surrounding the finances of the team, with owner Frank McCourt reportedly embroiled in divorce proceedings with wife and former team CEO Jamie. Selig said that he had taken action to "protect the best interests" of the Dodgers and will undertake a "thorough" probe of its management during McCourt's ownership.
"I informed Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt that I will appoint a representative to oversee all aspects of the business and the day-to-day operations of the club," said Selig. "We owe it to [the Dodgers'] legion of loyal fans to ensure that this club is being operated properly now and will be guided appropriately in the future."
