Kids United concept to launch next year
Children First Clubs, the health, sports and education group, is hoping to launch an indoor football club concept, Kids United, next year.
The £1m scheme is based on both the adult football club model and David Beckham’s Football Academy, but Children First said there are differences in terms of lottery funding criteria, age ranges, price structure, demographic areas, staffing and facilities.
Andy Baker, Children First’s managing director, said: “Children’s football is quickly gaining as a commercial market within adult football facilities such as Goals and Soccer Circus.”
He said that football’s increasing popularity with girls, children wanting to play in league formats rather than being continually coached and the UK weather, which restricts outdoor participation, are all key features in making Kids United viable.
The company is currently looking for local authority partners in the south of England to help launch the scheme. Details: www.childrenfirstclubs.co.uk
