IHRSA names Joe Moore president and CEO
The board of directors of the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) today announced that it has named Joe Moore as president and CEO of the association.
Moore has been serving as IHRSA’s interim leader since July and will now fill the role on a permanent basis.
He succeeds John McCarthy, who retired in July, and was the association’s first president and CEO, having served the industry for more than 25 years.
Previously, Moore served as chair of IHRSA’s board of directors from 2005 to 2006 and has been on the board since 2002.
He has worked in the health and fitness industry for 32 years, setting up his first health club in 1972. This grew into the 20-strong Moore’s chain, which he sold in 2004.
Moore said: “When I reflect on where the industry has come over the years, I realise the significant role that IHRSA and its membership has played in helping the medical and financial communities understand the value of regular exercise to individual health and to controlling the overall cost of healthcare.
“As we look to the future, I see IHRSA taking on an even greater role in further educating the public about the importance of physical activity and in influencing public policy to make it easier for everyone to make exercise a part of their everyday lives.
“To do this, we will need to strengthen our relationships with the medical and financial communities still further, and to work even harder to educate Congress and other legislative bodies of the critical role exercise plays in both our physical and fiscal health.” Details: www.ihrsa.org
