Getting Wigan Active gathers pace
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust’s (WLCT) Getting Wigan Active campaign is moving forward following improvements at two of its fitness facilities.
A £58,000 investment at Howe Bridge Sports Centre’s Profiles gym has funded the installation of an air-conditioning system and the creation of a new free weights area, while Hindley Leisure Centre has been fitted with a £70,000 purpose-built movement room.
During the last 15 months, the trust has invested more than £600,000 across its five gym facilities, which have a 3,500 members and 5,500 users in total.
Martin Eden, WLCT’s executive director for sport and healthy living, said: “The trust has a vision to increase physical activity in the borough by one per cent each year – that’s the equivalent of 3,000 extra residents taking part in regular exercise a year.”
