Fusion starts refurbishment programme at Enfield Leisure Centres
A programme of consultations has started on the refurbishment plans proposed by Enfield Council and its new leisure managers, Fusion Lifestyle as the first phase of the Council's £8.9m investment programme to improve facilities and services in leisure centres across the borough.
Work is due to start on the first centre, Southbury Leisure Centre, in November followed by Southgate and Albany Leisure Centres in 2011.
Proposed changes at Southbury include improvements to the reception area and gym, refurbishment of the dry changing areas and improvements to the studios.
Cllr Bambos Charalambous, cabinet member for youth, leisure, culture and Olympics, said, "The plans are progressing well and we're delighted things have moved on so swiftly. As well as presentation meetings with current users and the local community, information will be on display information in the centres and mechanics for the community to provide feedback.
"Southbury is a popular leisure centre offering great facilities to people of all ages and abilities and our promise is to provide quality facilities and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy them and get fitter."
Peter Kay, chief executive of Fusion Lifestyle said, "We are working with Enfield Council to bring about necessary impovements that will make a big difference to Enfield's leisure centres.
"Southbury is the first centre in the refurbishment programme. As a modern centre it has excellent facilities but is due for refreshing and updating to make it more accessible and enjoyable for everyone to use."
Fusion has appointed the Clarkson Alliance to design and manage the improvement programme.
