Folkestone Regeneration Plan
Shepway district council has produced the Folkestone Development Guide, aiming to attract investment to the south coast port.
The guide highlights seven key projects, to be undertaken over the next four years, which will rejuvenate the town across a number of sectors.
The centrepiece of the development will be at the Folkestone Seafront, where a 36 hectare mixed-use site will feature a marina and a casino.
The casino is a key aspect of the scheme; with changes in licensing regulation expected over the next two years, following the DCMS' report A Safe Bet for Success, the council is promoting the town as a prime location, particularly for an international company looking to construct a destination venue, probably with a five star hotel.
The town centre is also to be revamped, with a substantial programme of environmental improvements planned to improve the flow of pedestrians through the main streets. This will tie with the Bride Hall scheme - another mixed-use development, which will feature 22 retail units, a 21,000sq ft health club, 8,000sq ft of leisure and 8,000sq ft of restaurants and cafes.
