First phase of Splash revamp unveiled
Tees Active has unveiled the first phase of its £2.4m redevelopment of the Splash centre in Stockton-on-Tees.
The centre now boasts a new two-storey, 72-station Technogym fitness suite and a multi-use activity space including two badminton courts and ZigZag interactive stations, as well as new changing rooms.
Also due for completion by the end of the year are an extended foyer, a new café and a relocated reception area. The former fitness suite will be converted into two further multi-activity areas.
ZigZag Academy will provide training for the interactive zone, which includes two giant computerised Sportwalls, and eight five-step wireless Xer-Dance platforms. The kit was chosen following feedback from a local school, which took part in a taster day at another Tees Active site.
Allan McDermott, sports academy manager at Tees Active, said: "We are really excited about using ZigZag's interactive equipment to raise levels of activity in Stockton.
"The interactive equipment is what kids are looking for nowadays, it offers something different and more modern, and is a great way to get them exercising without them even realising. We are certain the local community will share our enthusiasm!"
Sports trust Tees Active manages seven leisure venues on behalf of Stock-on-Tees Borough Council.
