FA to scale down Wembley vehicle
The Football Association is to wind down its Wembley National Stadium vehicle, the company behind the troubled plan to construct a new national stadium. The move comes after the FA's announcement that it could not lead the funding for the new national stadium at Wembley with costs rising to £700m. Earlier this month the FA turned to the government to underwrite the ill-fated project, and a task-force, led by Jack Straw, is currently evaluating the feasibility of the project. While the Straw review is ongoing, WNSL has announced that it will scale down its operating costs, estimated at £2m a month without any work having begun on the new development. The design team is to stand down this Friday, but will remain on hand to return to full strength at one month's notice. In a statement, WSNL and the FA committed to contributing 'fully' to the Straw review with the aim of reaching 'a successful conclusion'.
