Dr Crionna Tobin on nutritional training for PTs and fitness experts

An ever-increasing number of Brits are engaging in sporting events, setting themselves goals and looking to increase their fitness levels, however, recent research by Optimum Nutrition has revealed that some people could be letting themselves down by not supporting their training with adequate diet and nutrition.

As a performance nutritionist, I, and many others in the industry, are fully aware that nutrition is a crucial element when it comes to hitting those fitness goals and reaching peak performance. Consumer understanding, however, doesn’t reflect this, as 80% per cent of Brits who exercise regularly admit that they’re not confident about what foods they should be eating to support their hard work - something that needs to be addressed.

Despite this lack of understanding and confusion, 30 per cent of Brits polled would like to get more nutritional advice from PTs, therefore it’s more important than ever that fitness experts, at the front line of consumer queries, are armed with solid evidence-based nutritional knowledge. With nutrition only forming a small part of the PT qualification, expanding their knowledge base is a valuable way that experts can stand out from the crowd and ensure they are giving their clients fully-rounded and correct advice.

If you’re a PT or fitness expert but don’t think you could accurately and clearly address the most common queries and nutritional myths - from the principles of weight loss, demystifying diets, to how to eat to support performance - then you would be wise to seek out a nutritional training course.

At Optimum Nutrition we want to empower PTs and fitness instructors to coach their clients on how to change their nutrition habits. We have developed a comprehensive online nutrition course, certified by the Association for Nutrition which also offers CPD points for REPS and CIMSPA members. In the two months since launching the platform nearly 1,000 PTs have already taken the opportunity to lift their nutrition knowledge and career.

Find out more at www.optimumnutrition.education

The course is available at a reduced rate for REPS and CIMSPA members
