Council nets £200,000 skate park funding
Derby City Council (DCC) has been awarded £200,000 from the Local Public Service Agreement towards plans for the development of a new skate park in the city.
Situated near to the city's bus and train stations at Bass Rec to provide easy access for young people across the region, the proposed facility is set to be targeted at skateboarders, BMX riders and in-line skaters. DCC will hold a further consultation to complete the design of the new skate park in late spring and early summer, with a view to starting the construction process in late autumn 2010.
Jo Naitta, the council's cabinet member for leisure and culture, said: "We hope that the new facilities will encourage young people to engage in outdoor sports in a fun and safe environment."
