British Swimming strikes deal with UK sport authorities
By Pete Hayman
A new sports science Memorandum of Operation (MoU) has been signed between British Swimming and UK Sport.
It makes the organisation the first national governing body to sign such a document, which also involves the three home country sport institutes (HCSIs) from England, Scotland and Wales. The MoU will see the establishment and agreement of a framework within which all partners will operate to help British Swimming meet performance objectives. It sets out the Sports Science, Sports Medicine partnership aims, philosophy and operational details which could help shape thinking on future MoUs across all sports. National performance director, Michael Scott, believes that the document will produce real benefits for British Swimming. He said: "Our aim was to set out a framework for a strong, open, performance-orientated partnership between British Swimming, the HCSIs and UK Sport. "It's one based on trust, respect and mutual commitment." The Sports Science, Sports Medicine partnership element of the MoU will help provide both swimmers and coaches with a world-class service in daily training and national team environments. The document will also underpin the continuous development of skills of those involved within British Swimming to maximise performance outcomes. Liz Nicholl, director of elite sport for UK Sport, said: "In order to support our athletes in producing a truly world class performance in 2012, we must have truly world class sports science and medical provision in place to meet their needs."A new sports science Memorandum of Operation (MoU) has been signed between British Swimming and UK Sport.
