Barco showcases new interactive solutions
Conscious of the challenge that science centres, museums, aquariums, theme parks and other visitor attractions face to continually renew their offer, Barco has created a new Edutainment and Entertainment (E&E) product group to service their needs, drawing on the company's immersive projection solutions.
Barco's expertise was on display recently at the ECSITE conference in London, where it showcased the Magic-Y Installation™ for the 500+ delegates from the science museum and science centre community. It has created an attraction where children, families and school groups are confronted with two worlds depicted on large-scale screens: a world of chaos on the left and a new world under construction on the right.
Using a special stick, called Magic-Y™, people can grab hold of objects out of the chaos and move them across to the right to build the structures they need. To be successful, all the participants have to collaborate to solve puzzles that are related to science or mathematics. Users can also choose to play different roles such as the 'master of chaos' or the 'builder'.
By simply running another contents set, the Magic-Y Installation™ can be used, for example, to 'Build a Universe'. Partners involved in the development of the new contents library are Imagination, a spin-off of the Technical University of Vienna, Alterface, a communications and remote sensing laboratory in Belgium, and ZA Production, a French-based producer and facilities provider specialising in 3D computer graphics.
