Attiva to opens PFI health club at school
Health club operator Attiva is to open a PFI health club in a school – thought to be the first such development in the UK.
The new club at Caludon Castle School will feature a 70-station fitness suite including cv machines, free weights, resistance equipment and vibration machines.
The health club, due to open on 7 July, will be operated by a franchisee and will be open to the public at heavily subsidised prices.
Attiva has been working together with the Coventry Education Partnership and Active Leisure Management on the project.
Membership at the 4,100sq ft (381sq m) club will be capped at 1,000 members.
The club is the first of several planned PFI school gyms Attiva intends to open over the next two years.
Confirmed future sites include Slough, Newcastle and Clacton on Sea.
The health club is part of a £38m redevelopment of the Caludon Castle School, and is located in the school’s brand new sports facility.
The new facilities include a 25m swimming pool, four artificial turf football pitches, a full-size sports hall, three tennis courts, a dance studio and an outdoor running track.
Construction of the site took 18 months to complete.
