Active at work initiative goes live

The FIA-led activity initiative, Active at Work, is due to commence next month (March) and the FIA is currently in discussions with several Sport England regions to further fund the initiative.

Its ultimate aim is to encourage more employees to be active, making activity a regular part of their lives.

To achieve this, FIA member club and centre operators will provide up to 30 employees per adopted company with a structured activity and health education programme.

The three-month programme is intended to help employees towards a healthier lifestyle.

So far, more than 100 employees have taken part in the initiative, with an age range spanning 19 to 66 years old. This target group is the moderately inactive.

The pilot study found 63 per cent of participants did not exercise regularly, while others played seasonal sports but had no regular routine before beginning a programme.

Benefits of the initiative include an improvement in productivity, teamwork and morale. It is also designed to encourage employees to make positive lifestyle changes such as reducing smoking, drinking less alcohol, doing more physical activity and choosing a healthier diet.

One participant from the original pilot said: “I was surprised at the increase in my energy levels. I have lost a stone in weight, attend the gym on a regular basis and I’m also careful about what I eat and drink.” Details: +44 (0)20 7202 4712
