ASTON UNIVERSITY
Director of Sport
Sport, Security and Nursery Services
Location: Aston University Main Campus
Salary: Competitive
Ref: R220260
Our mission is to be the UK's leading university for students aspiring to succeed in business and the professions, where original research, enterprise, and inspiring teaching deliver local and global impact.
Students from over 120 countries choose to study at Aston University – a safe and friendly campus enjoyed by a global, multicultural community. Birmingham is one of the UK’s most diverse cities and home to an unrivalled cultural heritage, top sporting events, music, performing arts and outstanding world cuisine. The Aston University campus is located on a green, 60-acre, self-contained site in the centre of Birmingham, within a short walk of the shopping, business, and entertainment areas of the city.
We are seeking to recruit an experienced sports and leisure services sports facilities manager with a proven track record of achievement to lead the strategic and commercial development of the sports service at Aston University.
The business model for Sport Aston is reliant on maximising income streams to offset the costs of a high volume of free use by student sports clubs, and to maintain charges for individual access to the sports facilities at affordable rates for students and staff.
You must be able to demonstrate a high level of commercial awareness and allied financial management skills together with a good understanding of the key issues surrounding the organisation of University student sport.
You will lead a team of 22 permanent staff supplemented by sessional coaches, instructors, and trained support staff. You will be responsible for a multi-purpose sports centre and two floodlit synthetic pitches on the main campus and a 48-acre site containing grass pitches, floodlit synthetic pitch and a sports pavilion 7 miles from the main campus.
Ideally you will have successfully managed sports facilities and services in a commercial setting and be able to demonstrate experience of working with governing bodies of sport, external agencies and Sport England on projects and initiatives designed to increase widening participation in sport and physical activity.
You should hold a degree, or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
Closing date: Wednesday 25 May noon.
First and final stage selection dates:
• First stage - Monday 6 June (Teams).
• Final stage - Thursday 16 June (in person).
