New Calderdale facilities officially unveiled
Calderdale Council deputy mayor John Hardy has officially unveiled two new multi-million pound leisure facilities in Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire.
Designed by Saunders Boston and built by Willmott Dixon, the swimming pool and fitness centres were funded using proceeds from the sale of Leeds-Bradford International Airport. Both facilities, which include a 25m, six-lane swimming pool; a learner pool; a fitness suite; and a dance studio, opened to the public in late 2010.
Hardy said: "The pools and fitness centres at Brighouse and Sowerby Bridge are the sort of state-of-the-art facilities that people have come to expect." The new centres - delivered as part of a £10.5m project led by Calderdale Council - replace both the old Brighouse Pool and the Sowerby Bridge pool respectively.
